In a world that is increasingly interconnected, many universities are seeking to add a global component to their curriculum.

Based on an initiative started at East Carolina University in 2003, Global Partners in Education is an organization that provides opportunities for university students to connect and collaborate with students around the world. GPE is currently comprised of over 40 partner universities worldwide and serves more than 1,500 students each year.

In addition to providing global opportunities to students, Global Partners in Education also works to:

♦ Apply new technologies and pedagogies to global education;

♦ Create opportunities for member institutions to collaborate in research activities that will strengthen and expand the capacity of member institutions;

♦ Foster collaborative educational opportunities including conferences, lectures, modules, courses and exchanges of students and faculty.

Global Partners in Education’s flagship program is Global Understanding. This program provides first hand, international experiences for the overwhelming majority of students who cannot study abroad, and increases knowledge and overall understanding of countries on an individual level, thereby helping to break down cultural barriers and increase overall intercultural communication.
